The History of Camp Stella
Emo and Jefferson founded Camp Stella in 2003.
A rotating and glowing Alcoholics Anonymous logo encouraged a few
neighborhood "friends of Bill" to check in and say hello. The following
year, Camp Stella's population doubled and it was moved to the village of
Jiffy Lube.
In
2005, with the encouragement and support of our friends at Anonymous Camp,
the organizers of Camp Stella began hosting daily meetings (the
Queers, Fallen Women, and Plain Crackpots Group) and registered Stella as
an official theme camp. The organizers of Avalon Village invited
Camp Stella to be a part of their thriving community.
Who is Stella?
|
A
long time ago on an island very far away, a wise sage named her higher
power Stella. Her sponsee, Jefferson, adopted this somewhat irreverent
name for his higher power as well. Sometime later, Camp Stella
co-founder
Emo followed suit. In 2003, Burning Man had a spiritual theme,
"Beyond Belief" and Camp Stella was born. In 2004, the theme was
"The Vault of Heaven." Again, Camp Stella was a natural fit.
In 2005 the camp retained the name out of a sense of
tradition than anything else. Each member of Camp Stella will
have his or her own concept of - and name for - his or her higher
power. |
